Suspecting a rat or mouse is living in your property rent-free? Call in the professionals!
A mouse infestation can occur anywhere – from households to public venues and other establishments. They can be harmful to your health in a variety of ways and even cause damage to your property.
Once inside the home or business premises, they can contaminate food and surfaces with droppings and urine in their search for food. They also chew through electrical wiring causing a fire hazard, or ruin the roof insulation in the loft.
Signs of Infestation:
Identifying the presence of rats or mice in a property is the first step towards effective control. Some common signs of infestation include:
Droppings: Rodent droppings are often found near food sources, along walls, or in secluded areas such as attics or basements. Fresh droppings are dark and moist, while older droppings become dry and brittle over time.
Gnaw Marks: Rats and mice have a constant need to gnaw on objects to keep their teeth trimmed. Look for gnaw marks on wood, plastic, wiring, and other materials around the property.
Tracks and Smudges: Rodents frequently travel along the same routes, leaving behind tracks and smudges along walls and baseboards. These marks may be faint, so a torch can be useful for detecting them.
Nesting Materials: Rats and mice build nests using a variety of materials, including paper, cloth, insulation, and plant matter. Finding shredded materials in hidden corners or crevices is a strong indicator of rodent activity.
Here are some facts about rodents:
- They are nocturnal and prefer to be out at night.
- You might hear scratching or gnawing in the loft or wall cavities.
- You may notice food packaging opened or damaged.
- They can be seen in the garden eating from bird feeders
- When the weather is cold they will look for somewhere warm to shelter and look for food.
